Coalo Zamorano is known for his smooth tenor voice, simple lyrics and congregational style of worship. With over 15 years in the worship ministry, his words have been recorded by the giants in Latin Worship and Praise music such as Marcos Witt, Danilo Montero and Marcos Barrientos.
As Music Director for the Lakewood Church Spanish congregation in Houston, Texas, he leads more than 9,000 members into worship every Sunday. The church program is televised and also seen by internet by more than 1 million people throughout Latin America and parts of Europe.
With three CDs under his belt as a soloist, he has impacted how Spanish churches worship and music is woven into the message of hope.
Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Jorge ‘Coalo’ Zamorano was born the third of four brothers and sisters. In 1986, the Zamorano family moved to Durango, in the middle of a family crisis. His neighbor, Marcos Witt, came to visit and ministered to them, leading to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. Years later, his relationship with Marcos’ ministry, would bring his own talents to light.
His trajectory includes more than 50 Christian music projects as producer, composer and singer. Some of the albums in which he participated are now part of the classics in Spanish worship and praise music. These include “Poderoso” (1993), “Alabadle” (1994), y “Enciende Una Luz” (1999) with Marcos Witt and “Eres Todopoderoso” (1999) from Danilo Montero.
With first CD as a soloist, “Cosas Poderosas” (2004), showcased Coalo’s strength and commitment to church worship as a congregation. Influenced in part by his work at Lakewood Church, Coalo selected several songs translated from English to Spanish that had touched his life. The CD garnered a Latin Grammy nomination as Best Worship CD along with a Dove nomination from the Gospel Music Association.
In 2006, Coalo released his second solo production, “Eres Mi Pasion”, recorded live at Lakewood. This CD features a mix of songs translated from English, with his original songs.
His current release, “Mi Confianza Esta en Ti”, is a self-produced CD, featuring 9 congregational songs of praise and worship. The words are healing to the soul in the times of anxiety and uncertainty. This CD is a studio production that keeps Coalo’s style of pop rock mixed with funk, featuring electric guitars mix perfectly in each song.
As a producer, Coalo has been nominated three times for Latin Grammys for his work in various Christian music productions, winning one for the CD, “Niños Adorando 2”.
Coalo resides in Houston, Texas with his wife, Lorena and two daughers, Lorene and Rebecca.
