For the tenth consecutive year, Shure is working with audio education departments at universities across the country to find tomorrow's recording stars. This year, for the first time, the competition is open to programs in Canada as well.

The following schools were randomly selected to participate in this year's competition:

Berklee College of Music
Daytona State College
Ithaca College
Lamont School of Music, University of Denver
MacEwan University (Canada)
Middle Tennessee State University
The Hartt School, University of Hartford
University of Central Missouri
University of Colorado Denver
University of Lethbridge (Canada)

Each competing team will create a recording project consisting of tracking and mixing any performance of an original piece of music exclusively using Shure microphones, which Shure will provide on a loan basis. Teams will submit a stereo mix and relevant project documentation for review by a panel of independent engineers and producers selected by Shure to judge the competition. The recordings will be evaluated on their overall fidelity, clarity, and sonic balance as well as on selection and placement of microphones.

The winning school will be awarded a new set of assorted Shure products, including KSM, SM, and Beta microphones, as well as SRH headphones, a prize package valued at more than $11,000. Runner-up and honorable mention school prizes will include select Shure microphones and headphones valued at $5,395 and $1,872, respectively. In addition, students on the top three recognized teams will receive prizes ranging from a KSM42 microphone, valued at $999, to a SM27-SC microphone, valued at $374, to SRH840 headphones, valued at $250.
